In discussing “ColdFusion” vs. “CFML” we talked about an experience with Railo, the easy install and terrific support by the Railo group! Also, check out the CF Meetup we discussed on using Eclipse effectively.
I won’t cover the details of the Habits of a Good Developer discussion on this blog, you’ve got to listen to it for yourself. However, if you’re inclined to start changing your ways for the better immediately, swing on by Micky’s blog and check out his article on UML.

]]>In the spirit of consistency, we’ve returned for another week of ColdFusion chat and Micky Dionisio is back in the fold and armed with knowledge. Before jumping in to Unit Testing in ColdFusion, we chat a bit about a blog post regarding ColdFusion Builder and share our thoughts on some ColdFusion Meetup presentations, first on ColdFusion Builder and next on BlazeDS with ColdFusion.
Just moments before we began recording, Micky opted to take the lead on the discussion on Unit Testing and instantly began to dive into the details with no hesitation. Unit Testing is a passionate subject for Micky which is evident in his coverage as well as his everyday usage of unit testing in his development work. We’re back… again! ColdFusion Builder was released this week and we’ve got some remarks about the pricing model. We’re joined by Bob Silverberg who shares some specific information about the upcoming cf.Objective() Conference. Last but certainly not least, Brian covers design patterns in their various forms with some examples of both effective and ineffective implementations, with helpful commentary from Bob Silverberg.

We appreciate all the feedback we receive on an ongoing basis from our listeners. You all make it worth the effort and we encourage your continued participation.
This week, we discuss preferred ColdFusion IDEs and make comparisons between ColdFusion Builder and IDEs available for other platforms. We get a tip about CFDevCamp, a planned event in the San Francisco area scheduled for November 7th, Mike surprises Brian and Micky with a pop quiz to measure their CFSCRIPT skills, and we discuss REST web services in ColdFusion and make comparisons between using REST versus ColdFusion’s built-in SOAP functionality in CFCs.
We had some high hopes this evening with the TalkShoe service but our dream of realtime participation from our listeners would go unrealized this evening. Despite our best efforts, the audio we were broadcasting to TalkShoe was of poor quality, to say the very least. We sincerely thank @cfaddict, @henrylearn2rock and @dfgrumpy (from CFHour() incidentally) for attempting to participate in our live stream before we threw in the towel! We’ll try it again another time!

There’s nothing more fun than exposing horrifyingly bad ColdFusion code, that is so long as it’s not your own. Mike found Ray Camden’s Friday Challenge all too tempting and submitted some of the ugliest CFML known to man. Just to be fair, there’s plenty of poor HTML and JavaScript in there as well! Check out some of the contributions of lengthy code submitted on Ray’s blog!
AdobeMAX is in full effect and we’re not there! Listen in on our discussion regarding these conferences and let us know your thoughts. We debate the value of these conferences and whether or not you really walk away with anything of concrete value. We encourage you to listen to our differing opinions and share your own in our comments! Lastly, we discuss creating applications with a ColdFusion backend in true OOP fashion while exploring the use of other technologies for the user interface layer.
